10K - ATMA HILL
ATMA HILL DESCRIPTION
The 10.5K route is aimed at those who are breaking into Trail Running, or those looking to gain experience in altitude races. It is anticipated that this distance will be the most popular amongst runners, as it combines the most complete views of the iconic Huascaran peaks (highest mountains in the earth’s tropics), Huandoy, Hualcan and Ranrapalca. The route follows a figure of 8 along the ridge-line of Atma, past adobe dwellings, local cattle, cultivated fields of quinoa and kiwicha. Visually this run is mind-blowingly beautiful, and although outside the Huascaran National Park the trail conditions are easy with a little altitude profile of just 174m.
Trail conditions are excellent in most parts, allowing competitors to really find their rhythm. A full debrief of what to expect and how to best visualize this race will be held at the induction talk on Saturday 10th June at LML.
SCHEDULE & CUT OFF
The race starts at 13:00 on Sunday 11th June with the cut off time at 16:00. The total actual distance is 11km, meaning that if you walked the whole route at a good walking pace of 4km, you would easily come in under the cut off time. Runners will have the opportunity to walk the route on Saturday prior to the race on Sunday, to prepare as they see necessary.
